Our Story

Hi, my name is Norman. I’m a veteran public school teacher and former youth soccer coach of 20 years.  I found it challenging to teach my players about the offside rule, basic soccer tactics and player spacing.  Youth soccer often looks like “bumble bee” soccer where the kids swarm around the ball leaving no space inbetween players to make passes or much else besides just kick the ball randomly around.  Like most coaches, I used a white board, but I found that by using a grid overlay on the white board, my youth soccer players began to learn about positions, spacing and basic football tactics.  I am a huge fan of Premier League soccer and I noticed that the way some professional soccer fields were cut were very similar to the grid or squares I had on my coach’s white board. Some professional soccer fields are cut or mowed into squares that are shades of light and dark green.  I used that image for the custom graphic on my soccer board game.  I began to think that it would be cool to add dice to represent ball and player movements and soon the "X's" and "O's" were replaced by game pieces from an old checkers game.  Dice were added and Goal Zone was born.  I bought a large piece of poster size graph paper with the soccer grid, dice and checker game pieces to my middle school classroom.  Here on “Fun Fridays” I had my test lab to create and refine the rules of Goal Zone Board Game.  Because we did not have 90 minutes to play two full halves of board game soccer, I had to modify the game, so the game could be played quickly.  After playing the game hundreds of times, I had a solid set of working rules.  To win the game, the first player to score 1, 2 or 3 goals wins the game.  This all depends on how much time you have to play the game.  My middle school students could usually play up to 3 goals in about 20 to 30 minutes, so it was perfect for “Fun Fridays”.  Sometimes if we had an extra 10 minutes of free time in class, the students would play to whoever scored the first goal.  This type of flexibility is great for this type of fast paced, dice based tabletop soccer board game.  Play to 3 goals if you have more time or just play up to 1 or 2 goals.  My middle school students go absolutely nuts over this game.  I love watching usually shy and quiet students break out of their shell and banter and trash talk other students using dice to win challenges and to shoot on goal in this head to head competition.  I thought I was done when I had a prototype for my students on “Fun Friday,” but my students would always ask me, “Where can I buy this game?”  Much to their dismay, I would reply, “We can play again next Friday.”  This is when I decided to take Goal Zone Board Game to the next level, but I noticed that all soccer board games are made in China.  I’m a patriot, so Goal Zone Board Game is proudly made in the USA.  We proudly support US labor.  As a result this game costs more to make compared to other games made in China.  Also, our production runs are in smaller quantities, so on occasion we may be temporarily “sold out,” so please check back if we are “sold out.”   If you are a “team mom,” athletic director, or soccer coach and want to buy more than 4 games for your club, please contact us for special pricing.  We would also love to be a team sponsor and proudly display our banner at your next game.  Goal Zone Board Game has a 100% approval rating in focus groups ages 12 to 30.   Goal Zone Board Game highlights the fast paced aspects of "the beautiful game" while eliminating game stoppage.  Easy to learn basic soccer rules.   The dice based action provides endless fun for friends and family and is a must have soccer board game of the year!  Get ready to unleash your soccer skills and dominate the field of play.  Master Football Tactics and Play Like A Pro At Home with Goal Zone Board Game!
